How can I send a plant through the mail without blocking all the light?

I need to send a plant in the mail but it will take at least a week to arrive. It is quite sensitive to changing light so I need to be able to allow some light into the box.

I thought I could cut some holes in the box and cover the holes with clear tape. Has anyone else go any suggestions? Am I allowed to send mail with the contents visible?
