Why does Jimmy Carr think it funny to keep telling a joke about downs syndrome?

Something along the lines of "Why are Variety Clubs sunshine coaches called Variety when every fu*ker in them looks the same"? How is that funny, would he like people to keep calling him a fugly unfunny frankenstein lookalike who was a virgin until he was 26?
