What happens if I can' t pay my phone bill but emigrating to another country?

I'm emigrating to South America as I have found a better job there and planning to start a new life. However, I have run a high phone bill on AT&T in America and can't pay it. I'm almost at the end of my contract and I want to know what would happen if I don't pay it and leave?
